Tanzania in Two WeeksThis wonderful tour takes you from the fresh air of the lakeside to wildlife viewing in the bush, to total rest and relaxation and finally cultural time in a mysterious, fabled old town. You'll see some of Tanzania's many sides, including four different national parks and the sandy white beaches of Zanzibar's coast.
After your first day in Tanzania, spent relaxing at a beautiful lakeside, your wildlife journey will really begin. You will head to Tarangire, a huge national park famed for the huge baobab trees which dot the landscape and drawf the animals beneath them.
You will continue on to Lake Manyara, driving across the floor of the Great Rift Valley on the way. This stunning park boasts lush vegetation and tropical forests of fig and mahogany trees. Animals to be spotted include elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, a variety of antelope and, if you are fortunate enough, the Lake Manyara tree-climbing lion.
The Ngorongoro Crater is often described as a wonder of the world, and not without reason. This huge volcanic caldera (created from a collapsed volcano) has 2000ft high walls which somehow defy your sense of perception as you gaze into it. It is a natural sanctuary for animals, with the 'Big Five' all residing here. Wildlife which can be seen here include lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackal, hundreds of bird species and even the rare black rhino.
The Serengeti is an amazing place, and on this yours you will spend two amazing days here. Even as you approach the Serengeti, you will stop at the Olduvai Museum, and interesting stop where famous anthropologists made many important discoveries about the origins of humankind. As you enter the Serengeti itself, you will start spotting game right away, perhaps seeing wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, baboons, monkeys, various antelopes and a whole host of bird species.
After so much excitement, you will relish your time spent relaxing on the Zanzibar Coast. This exotic island, once the backbone of the world's spice trade and a gateway into East Africa, is a beautiful and fascinating place. The first few days will be spent at leisure, trying out some watersports perhaps, or just relaxing at the poolside and soaking up some sun on the palm-fringed beaches. You will then transfer to Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you will marvel at the Arabia-meets-Africa Swahili architecture, and learn about the island's spice trade past.
