Tanzania in Two Weeks

This wonderful tour takes you from the fresh air of the lakeside to wildlife viewing in the bush, to total rest and relaxation and finally cultural time in a mysterious, fabled old town. You'll see some of Tanzania's many sides, including four different national parks and the sandy white beaches of Zanzibar's coast.

After your first day in Tanzania, spent relaxing at a beautiful lakeside, your wildlife journey will really begin. You will head to Tarangire, a huge national park famed for the huge baobab trees which dot the landscape and drawf the animals beneath them.

You will continue on to Lake Manyara, driving across the floor of the Great Rift Valley on the way. This stunning park boasts lush vegetation and tropical forests of fig and mahogany trees. Animals to be spotted include elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, a variety of antelope and, if you are fortunate enough, the Lake Manyara tree-climbing lion.

The Ngorongoro Crater is often described as a wonder of the world, and not without reason. This huge volcanic caldera (created from a collapsed volcano) has 2000ft high walls which somehow defy your sense of perception as you gaze into it. It is a natural sanctuary for animals, with the 'Big Five' all residing here. Wildlife which can be seen here include lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackal, hundreds of bird species and even the rare black rhino.

The Serengeti is an amazing place, and on this yours you will spend two amazing days here. Even as you approach the Serengeti, you will stop at the Olduvai Museum, and interesting stop where famous anthropologists made many important discoveries about the origins of humankind. As you enter the Serengeti itself, you will start spotting game right away, perhaps seeing wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, baboons, monkeys, various antelopes and a whole host of bird species.

After so much excitement, you will relish your time spent relaxing on the Zanzibar Coast. This exotic island, once the backbone of the world's spice trade and a gateway into East Africa, is a beautiful and fascinating place. The first few days will be spent at leisure, trying out some watersports perhaps, or just relaxing at the poolside and soaking up some sun on the palm-fringed beaches. You will then transfer to Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you will marvel at the Arabia-meets-Africa Swahili architecture, and learn about the island's spice trade past.

Lakeside Hospitality, Safari under Canvas and Beachside Bliss

Your first night in Tanzania will be spent at the lovely Mountain Village Lodge. This property is surrounded by lush countryside and coffee plantations and nestles at the foot of Mount Meru - a quintessentially Tanzanian setting. The views of Lake Duluti are delightful, as is the food, the service and the welcoming atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a cold beer or a hot coffee in front of one of the open fireplaces in the bar and lounge area.

Kikoti Tented Camp in Tarangire offers an authentic safari experience, similar to the traditional safari of old. Guests will sleep under canvas, on comfortable beds with fine linens, and enjoy the surrounding views of the rugged wilderness from a private wooden decking veranda.

The Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge stands on an escarpment, offering breathtaking views of the lake below. Guests here will enjoy the tranquillity, the wild surroundings and the abundance of birdlife in equal measure. The layout of the lodge is grouped around the amazing vanishing horizon pool, from which views of the sweeping landscape below can be enjoyed.

After a wonderful game drive at the crater bottom, guests at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge can enjoy the view of the crater from above. Perched on the crater rim, this lodge offers unrivalled views of the breahtaking crater, both from the communal areas and the guest rooms.

In the Serengeti, the feeling of being in a true wilderness is unparalleled, and nowhere more so than when staying at Mapito Tented Camp. Sleeping under canvas, guests will relish the chance to sit round the nightly campfire, enjoying a quiet drink or exchanging safari stories. You might even spot a wild creature wandering past, or hear the booming growl of a night-prowling lion. There is nothing like hearing the roar of one of these majestic creatures whilst dozing off at night...

In Zanzibar, you will be warmly greeted at The Zanzibari - a delightful boutique hotel which is as stylish as it is welcoming. Here, you can relax in your air conditioned room and enjoy Indian Ocean views from your balcony, look down on the lush, brightly-coloured gardens, enjoy a cool drink in the shade and take a swim in the large outdoor pool.

Your final nights will be spent in the fantastic Kisiwa House - a unique city hotel right in the centre of Stone Town. The rooms are individually styled and furnished to a high quality. Guests will enjoy dining at the rooftop restaurant and taking a traditional Zanzibar tea in the courtyard, listening to the soothing sounds of traditional Zanzibar Taarab music.
